Since DR is done and I'm not playing anything else right now I thought I would try something new. I've done a little bit of research, but I'd like to know what some of you think of the game. One question I do have is where should I purchase the game from should I decide to keep playing after the demo is over? Is there an advantage to buying it off Steam as opposed to from the Torchlight website? I know its on sale for $9.95 until tomorrow at both places, but I don't have a Steam account and I'd rather not make another account somewhere if there aren't any benefits to it.

Torchlight is totally awesome. It follows the style of Diablo and Dungeon Runners great. Where to buy it, if you want it, is up to you. Not sure, there might be a demo you can download to try it out first.

Torchlight is pure Single Player for now but in a year or so they will make a MMO based on it.

Btw, there's a free official tool with whom you can make your own addons and stuff for Torchlight, or even use other peoples to make the game even more fun.

Well, I just got done playing the demo for about an hour. It seems fun and the different difficulty levels could keep me playing for awhile. Its definitely worth the $10. I'm still not a huge fan of "click to move" format, but I'll get used to it.

Somethings that did bother me:
Can you change the camera angle?
Is there a list somewhere of the hotkeys? I know what the number keys do, but what about the letters?

Camera Angle is locked. There is addons you make you able to zoom out more though. This is something I read they probably will change for the MMO version. I really hope so though.

You should have a Manual in the folder where you installed the game. Might not come with the demo but it's there with the full game at least.

You can't change the camera, there is a mod that lets you do that, but its out of date and needs to be updated.
There is also a mod that lets you view/change hotkeys.
Google for them, most are on the mod section of the TL forums.

By the way, TL is $5 on steam today only, plus buying thru steam lets you unlock steam achievements. Even if you buy direct from Runic's site, you may still be downloading and installing the game via steam.

Torchlight is a definite must play for DR fans (in my eyes). It may not have the humor of DR but it has just about everything else :). Also, with the TorchED editor I am sure that enterprising souls could modify the game into an offline version of DR with alot of work.

I was looking through the mass of Mods people have made and got to thinking: what mods does everyone here use or recommend?

To handle your Mods you should use Torchleech. It reminds of the Curse installer and it also tells you if there's a conflict between mods.

The mods I use are:
  • BiggerGems - Makes gems look 1.5x the normal size in the inventory.
  • EnchantMod - Prevents armor and stuff from getting 'wiped' to nothing if the enchant fails.
  • Scrolls2spells - Moves pots and scrolls to the spells inven tab.
  • MerchantPack - Adds more merchants that divide up item types (gem seller, ranged weapon seller, armor smith, etc)
  • NPC-XP-POTIONS - Adds exp booster potions to the game, can be bought -expensive- or found -rare-
  • RespecMod - Lets you buy a respec potion that resets your stats.
  • NE-AlwaysIdentified - items no longer have to be identified, also removes identifier scrolls.
  • SmallFontV1.31 - Smaller font sizes.
  • PikachuModv1.5 - adds various potions, doesn't seem to work though...

Some of those are nice, but nothing that I couldn't live without :P

I torren.. got Torchlight a couple weeks ago and it seems to be quite fun. Can't seem to get into it though as I miss the multiplayer aspect of RPGs in general now. Maybe I'll give it a whirl again soon.

I played torchlight in beta and it was fun that is why I wont buy it or play it till next year when it will be multi person. If I wanted to a game with no social interaction I might as well load up Doom or old school Wolfenstein.

Kun btw I am playing GW on the prophency thingy and on the US server if that matters as I am sure it does. Name is Clamm Mez
