NCsoft does it again, this time they're closing down Lineage.

According to a new post from NCSoft on the Lineage site, the North American game servers will be closing permanently on June 29, 2011. NCSoft indicates that the 'franchise is no longer profitable', hence the server closure.

I feel the players pain. I have never played Lineage and I'm steering clear of NCSoft games in general for fear of the dropping ax. I understand them stopping future development and support, but to kill the servers with no options for the players is not a good business practice IMHO. It cost next to nothing to run a server today, the very least they could do would be to provide compiled server software for the public to setup and run.

Well, one thing's for sure: NCsoft will have a really hard time going on after this. Ok, I'm sure many will port over to Guild Wars 2 as it arrives and they're putting a lot of effort in City of Heroes still but who know what'll happen with Aion. Many predicts it to be another Tabula Rasa. I never got to play Tabula Rasa but I were really curious. Aion looks a bit fun too but like many others, I really don't trust NCsoft enough to put time, effort and money in one of their games anymore.

The sad thing is that if Dungeon Runners just ended up at any other company I'm sure it'd still be around today...
